Have you ever been in a season where the storms of life seem relentless, and God’s voice feels distant? Maybe you’re in that place right now—feeling like the weight of the world is on your shoulders, and no matter how hard you pray or cry out, heaven seems silent. I’ve been there too.
In moments like these, the enemy is quick to whisper lies in our ears. He tells us things like:
- “God doesn’t care about you.”
- “If God truly loved you, He wouldn’t allow this to happen.”
- “Your situation will only get worse.”
- “You’re alone in this; it’s up to you to fix it.”
These lies are meant to shake your faith, to make you question God’s love and goodness. But let me remind you of something powerful: silence is not absence, and delays are not denials. God is still with you, even when He seems silent.
Why Does God Allow These Storms?
One of the biggest questions we ask in difficult times is, “Why is God allowing this?” It’s natural to wonder. But instead of focusing on the “why,” shift your perspective to who God is. He is faithful, just, and loving. Sometimes, He allows storms not to punish us but to purify us, refine our character, and strengthen our faith.
In those moments when you feel like you’re doing everything you know to do, and yet the rain keeps pouring, lean even closer to God. We have to stay anchored in His presence, not in our feelings or understanding. His presence will give us the strength to endure and grow through the storm.
Remember the Disciples in the Storm
In Mark 4:35-41, the disciples found themselves in the middle of a fierce storm. Fear consumed them as they watched the waves crash into their boat. Jesus, however, was asleep. The disciples questioned Him: “Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?”
Sound familiar? Maybe you’ve been crying out, “Lord, don’t You care?” But what did Jesus do? He woke up and calmed the storm with just a word. In that moment, He reminded them that while He may seem silent, He’s still in control. The storm obeyed His command, and the same God who calmed that storm is still in control of yours.
The Enemy’s Lies vs. God’s Truth
The enemy will always try to distort our understanding of God’s nature, especially in seasons of hardship. Here are some common lies and the truths that counter them:
- Lie: God doesn’t care about me.
Truth: God cares deeply for you. “Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you” (1 Peter 5:7). - Lie: If God loved me, He wouldn’t allow this.
Truth: God’s love is not dependent on your circumstances. “For I am convinced that nothing… will be able to separate us from the love of God” (Romans 8:38-39). - Lie: I have to fix this myself.
Truth: God is your refuge and strength. “The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still” (Exodus 14:14).
What to Do When God Feels Silent
- Keep Praying: Silence doesn’t mean God isn’t listening. Keep pouring out your heart to Him, even when you don’t feel like it.
- Trust His Timing: God is working behind the scenes. Trust that He knows the best time to answer your prayers.
- Lean on His Word: When God seems silent, His Word is your lifeline. Let Scripture remind you of His promises.
- Surround Yourself with Believers: Don’t isolate yourself. Lean on your church family, if you do have one, I encourage you to find one, specifically where the whole Word of God is preached.
- Ask for Help: The phrase “fake it until you make it” is not found in the Bible, nor is it a principle that aligns with biblical teachings. The Bible teaches us to seek help, rely on God’s strength, and be vulnerable within the Christian community. Pretending everything is fine doesn’t lead to growth or healing, but acknowledging our need for help opens the door for God’s grace and for others to walk alongside us. We’re called to support one another. Pretending we’re fine when we’re not keeps others from fulfilling the call to bear our burdens and allowing others to pray for you when you’re weak.
- Galatians 6:2
“Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.”
- Galatians 6:2
God’s Silence is Not His Absence
When life’s storms rage on, it’s easy to feel abandoned. But remember, God is not absent in your silence. He’s working, refining, and preparing you for something greater. He promises never to leave you nor forsake you (Deuteronomy 31:6).
You may not understand why you’re in this storm, but you can trust that God is in the boat with you. He hasn’t forgotten you. He’s not ignoring your cries. He is the same God who can speak peace into your storm in an instant. So hold on, because the One who calms the seas will calm your heart too.
Keep trusting, keep praying, and most importantly, keep believing that God is for you, even when it feels like the world is against you.
I pray this post encourages you to trust in God’s faithfulness, even when the waves are crashing, and it feels like you’re sinking. He’s not done with your story yet!
Blessings and grace,
Beteline
